"We call you for the interview if you send us the Work Plan
for a year, or the lists of all the contacts and clients"
Juan Gabriel (Alberto Aguilera Valadez) was a
singer-songwriter, actor, composer, musician, record producer and Mexican
philanthropist. Considered one of the best Mexican composers and singers of all
time, he left to his admirers a legacy of numerous songs of high quality
composing and musical.
I heard an anecdote, I do not know if it's real or
fictional, it does not matter since I'm interested in the implicit message.
When he started in the musical career, the producers wanted to take advantage
of his talent, and they proposed a contract in which Juan Gabriel ceded the
right of the songs that he had already created (more than 200), paying him
rights for only one. He presented the transcription of a song and when they
asked where the others were, he replied: "The song they pay for is here,
the others are in my head and will be delivered as they pay for them." A
brilliant response from the artist who valued his intellectual property.
In the past, when a company intended to hire a professional,
it was quoted for evaluations of its capabilities and potential, and when it
answered satisfactorily, they quoted it for the definitive interview.
Currently, there is an unhealthy practice in which there are
no evaluations, but a candidate is directly named for an "interview".
If there was no prior evaluation, how do you know that the person applying for
the job is the one indicated? There is no magic, but a repudiating intention:
Candidates are demanding, without shamelessness, the presentation of work plans
for the year, the complete list of clients and contacts, and all references. It
is possible that the most immoral request the commercial or productive secrets
of the company where the candidate was. Evaluations? Yes, to choose the
"victim" who meets the best conditions, and who can do what they ask.
The CV of the others is thrown away.
The demand for confidential data and a complex intellectual
work, is completed with the proposal of "work a time to test", which
really is free work since the probability of contract is nil.
Disloyalty, insinuation to commit crimes or blackmail are
shown in detail in these proposals. It is also possible that these companies
have cloudy origins, since the habit of making money at the expense of the
effort or work of others, is evident in these actions.
Here I transcribe literally the post of a person from the
Lnkedin network and two comments (it is one of many chosen at random).
Message 1. I almost never write, but
something curious happened to me. It turns out that I sent my CV to
"Marketing Manager at Growth Institute" (same that I saw here on
Linkedin) and they send me an email saying: "For us to give you the
interview, please send us the marketing plan you would do the first 100 days
for register at 100 MBD's ". Yeah right! If they want to once I send the
plan for the whole year and do not pay me anything.
That courage! I do not doubt that there
are people who are excited to send them to you. They say: "Think evil and
you will succeed." Like why should I trust you and think that you will
actually hire someone? I think it's your modus operandi to get it for free.
That bad! How is it possible that to get the happy "interview" ask
for that. Or am I badly thought out? What do you think?
Comment 1. Knowledge is not given away, it
costs a lot. They should be given a brushstroke and nothing else. On one
occasion I gave some comments on how to improve a department and when I
realized they were implementing it, and that is fine but that is to abuse ... I
think serious companies would not fall into these abuses
Comment 2. Gte is becoming customary to
me. of Dorco asked me all the contacts of beauty companies that I have worked
for 15 years, without contract, without payment, free. In another interview of
a company of human resources the recruiter told me that it was also commercial
and that I would give her by mail all the database of my clients of plastics,
that I have also worked for many years and worse asked all the data of my
exjefes to offer their services, what will happen? ...

How can you avoid this nightmare? In the first place, the
warning must be spread among all by Linkedin or other means to avoid being
deceived. Use the "Juan Gabriel Method". If they pay for a song, they
are given a song; if they want 200 songs that the check is for 200 songs. If
they ask for a Work Plan, send the index and the rest when they receive the
check previously for the value of the work. If they ask for the directory of
customers, request by reciprocity the complete directory of customers from
them, to find out if customers are satisfied with their products or services.
And decide if the company is a good place to work. Remember Juan Gabriel.
Two great Hispanic artists, Juan Gabriel and Isabel
Pantoja.
